Hello, my name is Abraham. I used to be called Abram. The Lord God, the true one I worshiped, came to me and promised me that I would make a great nation and be blessed. He explained to me, "I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you." Because I had accepted this plan, the relationship between God and the Jewish people had been established. I began to grow old and still had no children. My wife, Sarai, was too old to bear children. I had my first son, Ishmael, with Hagar, the maidservant. God promised Sarai a son when she was 90 years old. She bore a son, Isaac. My name was changed to Abraham, and Sarai’s name was changed to Sarah to show our new covenant with God. Isaac became the ancestor of the Jewish people. God had tested my faith by asking me to sacrifice Isaac. I did as he said, and before the sacrifice, God spared Isaac. Scripture says, "[I] believed God, and it was credited to [me] as righteousness . . . therefore, the promise comes by faith.” I have learned to keep my faith even in the hardest of times. “The words ‘it was credited to [me]’ were written not for [me] alone, but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.” Christians will live in a covenant with God by staying faithful.
